Whittington House (London), glass office walls and glass wipe boards

Back to projects

The glass office fit-out at Whittington House was a combination of single glazed and double glazed walls. Double glazed partitions allow for greater privacy and sound reduction; these walls were mainly used in the meetings rooms for this project. Acoustic glass was also used in various parts of the install for improved soundproofing.

Doors types varied from glass sliding doors to framed hinged glass doors (in some areas, the client opted for timber doors and frames). Double glazed doors are framed to hold the two sheets of glass in place and offer greater sound resistance. Sliding doors tend to offer less acoustic resistance.

Prism Glass installed all glass and the Strahle (German-made Partitioning System) track - well known for its acoustic resistance. The installation was completed well before schedule; due to our combined efforts, our client was awarded "contractor of the month" by the main contractor.

If you have sound reduction needs in your workplace, glass partitions  are undoubtedly an alternative to solid walls, especially if a specialised glazing track is used. Acoustic glass walls have the advantage of offering transparency and openness within a workplace without compromising privacy. And, the cost of glass partitions may surprise you when compared to solid walls.

Another advantage is the speed in which glass partitions can be installed (and taken down) compared to solid walls. This is because solid walls often require additional trades and dusty work such as plastering and decorating. Solid walls often need painting after a few years unlike glass, which can be wiped down with common household cleaning materials. Making future alterations to glass walls is also easier than solid walls.

For this project, Prims Glass was also asked by The Glass WipeBoard Company to install over 40 glass wipe boards throughout the same floor. The wipe boards (or whiteboards) were bespoke, made to fit each workspace and back-painted according to client specification. All fixings were hidden behind the glass boards.
